GOLDEN SLIPPER

Remember the Outkast song Ms. Jackson where they sing "You can plan a pretty picnic but you can't predict the weather"? On a very minor scale, this was my lesson from The Universe yesterday. I thought I'd get all dolled up for Golden Slipper, sip champers in the sun and relish Sydney's endless summer. I picked my dress, some suede heels and chose to wear my hair down and straightened. I looked out the window in the morning and smiled - the overnight rain had cleared, the sun was out and I didn't feel too worried about the fact I hadn't scotch guarded my new shoes. And then, as we made our way to the station, the rain set in. Hard. Goodbye sleek hair, hello shoes now stained beyond repair! I couldn't win. Or so melodramatic me thought. The rain cleared (too late for my tresses), we met up with James' folks, watched all the races and, as luck would have it, I - the least seasoned gambler of the bunch - walked away with the most winnings! Life is full of surprises - probably the biggest one yesterday for Ms. Pedantry over here was that the state of one's hair and shoes really has no power (unless you let it) to spoil one's day. Golden Slipper. Grey Clouds. Silver Lining.

What did you get up to this weekend? Are you planning on coming to any of the races this Autumn Carnival? Next weekend BLACK CAVIAR is coming to Randwick. I hope we can go!
