DAVID JONES AUSTRALIAN DERBY DAY (OR THE DAY I STOOD ONE METRE FROM BLACK CAVIAR)

This post is very picture heavy, so I won't say too much except that this year's Derby Day was the most exciting race day I have ever attended. Not only were we the first to experience the newly revamped Randwick racecourse, I also stood within a metre of the world's fastest horse, Black Caviar. I held my breath, heart racing, along with 23,000 others as she won her 25th consecutive victory. I was there when history was being made and it felt incredible! Derby Day is traditionally black and white but because the great mare was in town, there was a splash of salmon - salmon and black polkadots are her racing colours - through the crowd. Even the finishing post was painted in her colours because, really, it was her we all came to see. I hope you enjoy my pictures: the fashions, the field, the fascinators, the fun, the frenzy and of course, the finest filly that ever flew across the finishing post.

  1. Gorgeous pics, loved the one of the little girl and her friend, wearing pretty much matching clothes and boots. Your dress was beautiful, so are you. Did James forget his sunglasses?
