MY WEDDING MAKEUP

I have never trusted makeup artists with my face. Though I know they are capable of amazing things, I have often walked away from having my makeup done feeling less attractive than when I do my makeup myself. I suppose it's because when someone comes to a makeup artist totally bare faced, anything is going to be an improvement. That is, unless that person is the type to wear a full face of slap every day that they have perfected over many years.

Any formal event that requires dressing up, I have always done my own face. But when I started planning my wedding, I knew that on such a special day, with a photographer capturing my every move, I would be way too far out of my depth. On my wedding day I want contouring, I want false lashes, I want my makeup to be camera-ready - and those things I can confidently say I do not know how to do myself. An expert had to be brought in. A real, top notch, miracle worker who could understand a face like no-one else, bring out all the very best of my features and make the worst ones beautiful too!

I honestly didn't have a clue where to find this person. I visited MAC counters to see if they had any excellent freelancers on the team. I asked celebrity makeup artists over twitter if they knew people who didn't just do commercial/celebrity work. I looked at other people's wedding pictures and tried to find a look I would fall in love with. I felt like I had a few "maybe's" lined up, and fired off an e-mail or two before getting on youtube and watching makeup tutorials to learn some new tricks myself - a backup plan in case of disappointment.

Then, by chance, I came across an incredible makeup artist. I am one of hundreds of thousands of people who follow Sydney Fashion Blogger on Instagram, and I discovered that in many of her photos, her makeup was the work of Mel, owner of MUDU (MakeUpDressUp). I figured, if she's good enough for the stylish and glamorous SFB, she's good enough for me! We arranged for her to do a trial on me today and I can honestly say that this is the most beautiful I have ever felt. I haven't even done my hair and I am wearing an old basic singlet but I still feel fabulous! I don't know how I am going to wake up tomorrow and put on my usual makeup. It seems so amateur now!

As well as being a makeup artist, Mel also teaches the craft. I must take up lessons - being able to do my own face this well would be a dream! So, what do you think? Thumbs up for my wedding day?

If you'd like to get in touch with Mel or see the all the incredible looks she creates, check out MUDU on facebook and instagram.
