TOP OF THE READING LIST...

I can't wait to read the latest novel from Sam de Brito. It's a sequel to his brilliant book 'The Lost Boys' and I suggest you read it if you haven't already. I'm not going to go into detail other than to say it's honest, funny, sad, and so very true. I couldn't stop recommending it to people for ages after I put it down.

I read de Brito's bitingly honest column "All Men are Liars" on a weekly basis. It's consistently brilliant and tops my list of the few columnists in Australia whose writing is worth reading. Some have described it as offensive and even women-hating but (and here's a rare moment I'm going to share a strong opinion with you on here) I think it's possible that those who perceive his writing in this way are either ignorant, swimming in a river of denial or carrying a large chip on their shoulder. In fact, if you read what he says with an open mind and allow for a little self-critique, then I think his column could be entirely helpful for many a person's self improvement.

I suppose I've gone off on a bit of a tangent, haven't I? Anyway, I'm going to be making room for Hello Darkness somewhere amidst my uni reading. If you're a stranger to Sam de Brito, get yourself a copy of The Lost Boys or check out his column in the 'S' lift out in the Sun Herald or the 'M' lift out in the Sunday Age.
